Focusky is frequently advertised as a PowerPoint alternative. However, this presentation software has many features that you cannot find in the product by Microsoft. Likewise, there are some other Powerpoint features that are not present in Focusky. So, saying that this product I am reviewing today is merely an alternative is not fair: it is simply different. Nevertheless, if I had no chance but to make a comparison, I would say that it is more similar to Prezi.

Focusky allows you to create a different type of presentations. Thus, instead of a sequence of slides, you can use it to create a sort of giant poster, from which you can select the areas you want to highlight. These areas, which are called frames and work like slides, can be arranged in a given sequence (or path). However, it is also possible to break the predefined order and move to the desired frame instead. The resulting presentation looks as if you were flying in and out from the various areas, due to a combination of zooming, panning, and rotating effects.

A presentation can be started from scratch, but it is also possible to use any of the multiple templates available online. Likewise, it supports importing from PowerPoint. Unfortunately, though this action can definitely save you a lot of effort, it cannot convert table text correctly.

Besides formatted text, the application supports inserting many types of multimedia contents. This way, you can include video, charts, formulas, audio, and images. Not only that, it also allows recording video directly from the screen or adding an oral narration. Moreover, it lets you add effects and transitions.

One of Focusky’s main advantages is that it allows exporting to several formats, being HTML5 the most versatile. Other formats include Windows executable, Flash web page, ZIP, Mac OSX application, mobile type and PDF. None of these formats do not require Focusky to be installed on the target machine. Luckily, your presentations can be made accessible from anywhere since you can also upload and store them on the Cloud.

In a few words, Focusky is absolutely one of the best presentation makers out there. I am glad that several versions are available at different prices. Fortunately, there is a free one that you can use without too many limitations. Like most programs, there are some things that need polishing; for instance, it still has some untranslated labels.
